FC Barcelona to stop serving breakfast to players in an effort to cut costs and save money

In an effort to cut costs and save money, reports indicate that Barcelona is planning to eliminate its breakfast menu for youth players.

According to Spanish source Relevo, the club’s decision to remove this breakfast offering stems from the fact that the young players haven’t been utilizing these meals, leading club president Joan Laporta to view it as an unnecessary expense.

The financial challenges faced by Barcelona have been evident for a few years now, prompting the club to make tough choices to stay afloat.

One of the most notable instances was in 2021 when they had to allow Lionel Messi to depart the club as a free agent due to their inability to extend his contract.

Although they attempted to reacquire their all-time top scorer earlier this summer, they lacked the financial resources required for his free transfer.

In 2022, the club had to activate certain financial measures to enable them to sign new players and cover salaries. However, these measures have since been depleted, leaving the club in a precarious situation.

Presently, Barcelona is housing several players who have not been officially registered, including former Sociedad defender Inigo Martinez.

Alongside their efforts to generate revenue through player sales, the club is also under pressure to trim expenses in order to accommodate these players into their squad.
