Nigeria vs Ghana: Otto Addo Reveals How Black Stars Can Break Into Nigeria Defence

Otto Addo, the coach of Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, exudes confidence ahead of their international friendly against Nigeria on Friday, March 22, in Morocco. Anticipating a challenging encounter, Addo believes the Black Stars can exploit the weaknesses of the Super Eagles to secure a favorable result.

The upcoming clash between Ghana and Nigeria at the Stade de Marrakech marks a significant moment in their longstanding rivalry, being their first meeting since the Black Stars emerged victorious in a 2022 World Cup qualifier held in Abuja.

Acknowledging the defensive prowess of the Super Eagles, Addo praised Nigeria’s compact defensive structure. However, he also noted vulnerabilities within the Nigerian team, which he intends for the Black Stars to capitalize on during the match.

“We anticipate Nigeria to pose a formidable challenge defensively, as evidenced by their solid defensive performances. Nevertheless, they have shown susceptibility in certain areas, and we aim to exploit those weaknesses,” Addo remarked.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s offensive capabilities showcased during the Africa Cup of Nations, Addo highlighted the Super Eagles’ proficiency in attacking transitions, attributing their success to fast-paced wing play and a formidable presence upfront.

“While Nigeria boasts a formidable attack with swift wingers and towering forwards capable of holding up play, we have identified areas where they have shown vulnerability. Despite their journey to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, they have demonstrated lapses in certain matches, presenting opportunities for us to capitalize on,” Addo explained.

Ghana will enter the friendly match without the services of West Ham winger Mohammed Kudus, while Nigeria will miss the presence of Victor Osimhen due to an injury concern.

In anticipation of the match, speculation surrounds the predicted starting lineup for the Super Eagles, with Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali expected to feature alongside a defensive lineup comprising Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Jamilu Collins.

In a 4-3-3 formation, midfield stalwart Wilfred Ndidi is poised to return to the Super Eagles lineup, partnering with Alex Iwobi and Frank Onyeka in midfield. Meanwhile, Ademola Lookman and Moses Simon are expected to retain their spots in the starting lineup, with Sadiq Umar filling in for the absent Victor Osimhen in the attacking department.

As both teams prepare to face off on the pitch, the stage is set for a captivating encounter between two fierce rivals. With strategic insights and a commitment to exploiting weaknesses, Otto Addo and the Black Stars aim to secure a memorable result against Nigeria, further igniting the flames of their historic rivalry.
