Mason Greenwood sends a heartwarming message to Getafe fans after signing his contract with the club

Mason Greenwood has shared his thoughts on his recent deadline day loan move to Getafe with a video message for the club’s supporters.

Last month, Manchester United made a significant announcement after conducting a thorough investigation. They communicated that Greenwood would be continuing his football journey away from Old Trafford.

There were moments when it seemed Greenwood might return to Manchester United, and plans were underway for his comeback. However, strong opposition to his reintegration emerged, with the club stating, “All parties involved, including Mason himself, recognized the challenges of him resuming his career at Manchester United.”

As a result, it was mutually agreed that Greenwood would move on, and several clubs were given the opportunity to sign him.

According to reports, Brentford, Borussia Dortmund, Italian sides AS Roma and AC Milan, as well as clubs in the Saudi Pro League, all declined the opportunity.

Lazio showed interest but couldn’t reach an agreement. Nevertheless, La Liga’s Getafe successfully secured a deal to have Greenwood on their squad, with Manchester United stating that the move “allows Greenwood to start rebuilding his career elsewhere.”

The English international has since been seen in Getafe’s blue jersey, proudly displaying it in photos posted on the club’s social media.

He followed this up with a video message for Getafe’s fans, saying, “Hi Getafe fans, it’s Mason here, and I’m thrilled to be here. I can’t wait to get started.”

Greenwood will be wearing the No.12 shirt at Getafe. The team recently suffered a 2-1 defeat to rivals Real Madrid, with Jude Bellingham scoring a late winner.

Greenwood hasn’t played since Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over West Ham in January 2022, and Getafe has the option to end the loan early due to a break clause.

The signing has received criticism from various quarters, but manager Jose Bordalez has defended the decision to bring Greenwood to the club.

“It’s a sensitive situation that shouldn’t be trivialized,” Bordalas stated. “Everyone is aware of what occurred, and appropriate actions were taken. We all know how it ended, with a non-conviction verdict. He’s an exceptionally talented footballer and arrives at Getafe with great enthusiasm.”
