Former Black Stars midfielder, Anthony Annan, has put to rest the swirling rumors of his retirement, asserting his status as an active professional footballer.

The ex-Helsinki midfielder, who most recently plied his trade for Arm. Lirich, maintains his belief in his ability to continue his footballing journey, despite reaching the age of 37.

In a recent interview with Pipapipa Media on YouTube, Annan clarified his position, affirming, “I’m still Ghanaian and I’ve represented the Black Stars in the past. At the moment, there are new players who deserve opportunities. It’s important to support them. I wouldn’t declare myself retired, but I’m stepping aside to allow the new generation their chance.”

In response to the retirement rumors, Annan stressed, “I haven’t retired yet. I’ve just arrived in Germany, and I’ll assess my options. If the opportunity to play presents itself again, I’ll take it. If I feel it’s time to retire, then I will.”

Anthony Annan, a pivotal figure in Ghana’s football history, particularly as a defensive midfielder from 2007 to 2013, played a significant role in the Black Stars’ impressive 2010 squad, securing second place in AFCON and reaching the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

With 67 appearances and two goals during his tenure with the national team, Annan remains receptive to the prospect of continuing his contributions to Ghanaian football.
