Ilkay Gundogan “left confused” by style of play in Laliga after playing just two matches

Barcelona’s recent summer signee, Ilkay Gundogan, is reportedly feeling a bit bewildered by the style of play in La Liga.

Gundogan, who joined Barcelona on a free transfer from Manchester City after an illustrious spell there, has encountered a different playing environment in Spain.

The 32-year-old German midfielder, who had an impactful debut in the 2-0 win over Cadiz by assisting Pedri’s goal, has reportedly been surprised by certain aspects of the game in La Liga.

According to sources, Gundogan has been taken aback by what he perceives as excessive time wasting, fouls, attempts to deceive the referee, simulations, and provocations in the Spanish league.

Gundogan, who spent seven years in the English Premier League with Manchester City, where such actions were typically penalized more strictly, seems to have found some of these practices to be unexpected. Journalist Xavier Bosch noted that Gundogan had a moment of disbelief during the match against Getafe.

Despite his initial surprise, Gundogan is said to be gradually adjusting to the new environment at Barcelona.

Manager Xavi Hernandez has praised the midfielder, describing him as a perfect fit for Barcelona’s football philosophy.

Xavi emphasized Gundogan’s ability to maintain possession, influence the game positively, and consistently make the right decisions on the field.

Gundogan’s contribution to the team has been noteworthy, as evidenced by his completion of 89 passes and creation of six chances for his teammates in a recent match.

Xavi expressed his confidence in Gundogan’s role as a key player for the team and highlighted his significant impact.

Barcelona, currently ranked sixth in the league with four points from their first two matches, will continue their campaign against Villarreal this weekend.
